New King Hermit Video
Cov trio King Hermit have released their latest video and it’s their most impressive yet. It continues the collaboration between the band and the video’s producer Jim Page, who was behind their last video. You can find out more about Jim’s work at www.jamespage.info and twitter.com/thepageboy
Prduced for their track ‘Vile High Club’ the video has been very well received by fans and ‘Hermit Virgins’ alike. It shows another bleak day in the life of hapless lead singer Jim as it grinds him down with all its little frustrations. As he goes through his day, the bunch of balloons he started off with is gradually reduced to nothing.
It all sounds pretty grim stuff, put like that, but this video doesn’t leave you feeling like slitting your wrists. On the contrary, it’s genius is in its ability to make you smile and leave you feeling pretty good. There’s a light-hearted feel to it and you find yourself nodding, smiling and thinking “Yep, I know EXACTLY how you feel”.
It’s incredibly well put together and acted with just the right amount of understatement to be totally believable. Page has managed to capture the essence of King Hermit and avoided the self-indulgence of too many other band videos, delivering instead a piece which demonstrates that well executed simplicity is an incredibly expressive art form in itself.
Hats off too for the acting skills of frontman/guitarist Jim Peakman whose ‘sorry ass’ face works perfectly.
And let’s not forget the soundtrack. Vile High Club is a great track in its own right but combined with the video this is a few minutes of your time well spent.
